Daniel William Driscoll was born on January 1, 1918 in Maine. He resided in Cumberland County, Maine prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on July 23, 1940, prior to the war, in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles and also as Single, without dependents. Daniel served as a Technician Fourth Grade, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Parachute Infantry, U.S. Army during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on February 28, 1945 at the age of 27 and is now buried in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Portland, Cumberland County, Maine, USA. He was one of the American paratroopers who fought successfully on Battle for the Recapture of Corregidor, Philippines against the defending Japanese garrison in February 1945.
