Robert J. Biersteker was born on October 25, 1922. He was the son of Joseph Martin Biersteker and Esther Tiller Biersteker. Robert served in the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment as a Private First Class during World War II. He died on February 26, 1945 at the age of 22 during the battle for the recapture of Corregidor, Philippines against the defending Japanese garrison on the island and is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. PFC Biersteker's name is commemorated on The Rock Force Memorial located at Top Side - Corregidor Island, Philippines but his surname is inscribed as Bierstecker.
