John C. Marnye was born on April 2, 1919 in Hammond, Indiana. He was the son of Ellis Marnye and Lena Powder Marnye. John was a member of the US Army, 101st Airborne Division. He was a part of Operation Market Garden to secure railroad bridges over the rivers. His unit took tremendous shelling after being spotted by a German observer. John was killed instantly while hiding under trees during the attack on October 24, 1944 in Netherlands. PFC Marnye is now buried in the Carolina Memorial Park, Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA. He was one of the brave American paratroopers of the 501st Inf who liberated the village of Eerde, The Netherlands from German forces in September 1944.
