Alvie Kenneth Griffith was born on October 2, 1923 in Stonewall, Oklahoma. He was the son of Guy Orland Griffith and Susie Elizabeth Wilemon Griffith. He graduated from Geary High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy and served eight months before receiving a medical discharge in February 1942. He took NYA training at Chickasha and was sent to Bristol, CT where he was employed for several months in a defense plant. Then, in November 1942, he enlisted as a paratrooper and served with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 101st Airborne Division. Griffith was in Operation Market Garden and was killed at Vechel. He was originally buried in the Zon Cemetery, six miles east of Eindhoven, and now lies in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, USA.
