Raymond R. Edgell was born on January 22, 1919. He was educated in the Moundsville public schools, graduating from Moundsville high school in 1937. He entered the service in November 16, 1942 and served with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division as a Sergeant during World War II. SGT Edgell was Killed in Action on September 27, 1944 at the age of 25, defending the village of Eerde, The Netherlands against German forces. He is now buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, USA.
