Comments:
John William Ell was born on August 13, 1918 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Adolph Francis Ell and Rose Mary Hoeschele Ell. John entered the Army in 1941. He served in the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airbone Division as a Lieutenant during World War II. He was wounded on D-day and returned to active duty. On September 1944, they were in the Netherlands and he was Killed in Action on September 18th by a mortar while leading his platoon defending the Rhine bridges. 1LT Ell is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He was one of the brave American paratroopers of the 501st Inf who liberated the village of Eerde, The Netherlands from German forces.
