Spiridon B. Papayannakis was born on January 1, 1921, in Greece. He was inducted into the service on April 15, 1943. He served as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II.

Spiridon was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. T5 Papayannakis was honorable discharged on August 3, 1945.
