When Charles J. Liarakos was born on June 8, 1921, in Buffalo, New York, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Stella, was 22. He enlisted in the Army on October 1, 1942 in Maine. Charles was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He married Artemis D. Soter on July 1, 1945, in his hometown. He died on October 15, 2014, in Clarence, New York, at the age of 93.
