When James Caroulis was born on September 21, 1924, in Pennsylvania, his father, George, was 32 and his mother, Eugenia, was 26. He enlisted in the Army on April 22, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during World War II. He was 18 years old. James was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He died on March 11, 2009, in Huntington Beach, California, at the age of 84. His current burial place is unknown.
