When Gerasimos "Jerry" Apostolatos (Latos) was born on July 29, 1921, in Greece, his father, Themistokles, was 32 and his mother, Penelope, was 26. Jerry enlisted in the Army on February 26, 1943, in New York City, New York, during World War II. He was 21 years old. He was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. After the war, he married Poppy Kassaris in 1950. They had four children during their marriage. Jerry died on May 1, 2004, in Silver Spring, Maryland, at the age of 82. His current burial place is unknown.
