Born on 19 March 1921 in Beaumont, Texas to Samuel Monroe Cornwell and Lucy Mae Miles Cornwell. Pilot of the Spitfire s/n JK948 WD which took off from Calvi, Corsica at 10:05 on 27 January 1944 to do a sweep of the aerodrome La Grande Bastide (83). Shot down in aerial combat by Siegfried Lemke at 1100 in the hills of Pierrefeu. Listed as missing in Action. Remains recovered in June 2017
