Robert Adams was born on January 23, 1921 and was from Illinois. He was also a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a crew member (Tail Gunner) on the B-25 (43- 27737) “OKLAHOMA BETSIE”, of the 380th Bomber Squadron, 310th Bomber Group, 57th Bomber Wing, when it crashed on April 4, 1945. “Oklahoma Betsie was part of a 12-plane raid to bomb the railroad bridge at Oberdrauburg, Austria. On the return trip, “Oklahoma Betsie” collided with another B-25 (43-27552) “Pretzel”. “Pretzel” crashed immediately with complete loss of life near Monte Zocolan. Three crew members of “Oklahoma Betsie” perished and four became POWs when it crashed nearby in Lovea. A marker near Lovea remembers the crash site of “Oklahoma Betsie. Adams became a POW after the plane crashed. VIETNAM VET OBIT: Mr. Robert A. Adams died in a San Francisco hospital Monday afer a short illness. Born in Rock Falls IL, he had lived in Fairfield for 23 years. He retired from the US Air Force after 23 years of service and was employed at Vaca Valley Auto Parts. He was a member of American Legion Vacaville Post 165 and Fairfield Moose Lodge 861. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons, two sisters, one brother, and four grandchildren.
