Richard Louis Atkinson, Jr. was born on July 16, 1922. He served with the 388th Bomb Group, 561st Bomb Squadron, from Wendover Field, Utah. He was one of seven Army airmen killed in the crash of B-17F Flying Fortress #42-29562, two miles southeast of Soda Springs, in Caribou County, Idaho. Richard is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, USA. was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
