William George Alsop was born on February 2, 1917 in Wakefield, Clay County, Kansas. He was the son of Edward Henry Alsop and Sophia Matilda Male Alsop. He served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was reported missing on January 26, 1943 in Asia while flying "the hump" but is now buried in the Highland Cemetery, Wakefield, Clay County, Kansas, USA. His headstone says he was a Pilot.
2Lt Alsop was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
