Raymond S. Lewis was born on October 15, 1922. He entered the military service in Mississippi. Raymond served in the 3rd Transport Squadron as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was missing in a flight on March 13, 1945 and was declared dead on March 14, 1946. He is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Old Chesterville Cemetery, Chesterville, Pontotoc County, Mississippi. 2Lt. Lewis was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
