Howard F. Alexander was born in 1920 in Delaware. He resided in Kings County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on February 27, 1942 at Camp Upton, Yaphank, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents. Howard served as a Private First Class, 491st Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
Howard was a passenger on B-25D #41-30406. It took off from Chabua, India on a mission to Yangkai, China. Due to extreme icing the B-25 crashed somewhere either in India or China. He was declared "Missing in Action" on January 15, 1944 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
