Wayne J. Aberle was born in 1917 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota. He was the son of William H. Aberle and Bessie G. Gifford Aberle. Wayne served as a Second Lieutenant and Bombardier / Navigator on B-25D #41-30455, 11th Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force that was shot down and crashed in the sea during WW II. He participated in successful missions against Japanese targets for six months. He was declared "Missing in Action" on October 26, 1943 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. Wayne was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
