Robert Samuel Purvis was born on April 5, 1919 in Grand Forks, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. He was the son of Floyd Walker Purvis and May Violet Amble Purvis. Robert served in Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 20, 1944 at the age of 25 during the battle for liberation of Agincourt, France and is now buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks, Grand Forks County, North Dakota, USA.
