Alphonse Jean Bertin was born in 1889 in Estampures, France. He was a naturalized US citizen and served in the US Army during World War I. Alphonse died in the American Hospital in Neuilly in 1928 at the age of 39 and was buried in the American Legion Mausoleum just west of Paris.
