When Newman Epperson Asher was born on February 2, 1891, in Como, Tennessee, his father, William, was 38 and his mother, Lula, was 29. He married Anne Marie Chevallier in 1918 in France. They had three children during their marriage. Newman served in the US Army during World War I and World War II. He died in the American Hospital in Neuilly and was buried in the American Legion Mausoleum just west of Paris in 1964 at the age of 73.
