Alfred Lee Butler, III was born on September 4, 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Major. He was a liaison officer to the Lebanese armed forces. Major Butler was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest in his quarters at the American compound at Beirut International Airport on February 9, 1984. He died from a terrorist attack.
