Edward John Gargano was born on 5 May 1962 in Quincy, Mass. He served with the 22nd Marine Amphibious Unit with Weapons Co. 2/8 "Dragons" attached to Fox Co. in Beirut Lebanon. In an effort to reinforce the US Embassy while under assault, Ed was struck down in an ambush as he stepped from a helicopter near the US Embassy in Beirut. Sgt Gargano was the 258th Marine to die as part of the Multi- National Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon. He is now buried in the Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA. His name is commemorated on the Beirut monument, on the grounds of the US Embassy in Lebanon and ranked as a Corporal.
