Vincent Lee Smith was born on September 28, 1953 in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida. He was the son of Keith Alfred Smith. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1976. CAPT Smith served as air liason officer for BLT 1/8 Marines and had been in Beirut in May 1983. He was killed in the terrorist bombing of the United States Marine barracks. In the early morning hours of 23 Oct. 1983, a truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security perimeter of the USMC Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. In the explosion that followed, 241 US Military personnel were killed and 80 serious wounded. He is now buried in the Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, Prince William County, Virginia, USA.
