Daniel graduated from City College in New York , obtaining a B.A. Degree "Cum Laude" with honors in French. Soon after his graduation, Daniel was called up to serve in the US Army in Europe. Daniel served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He experienced combat in France and Belgium in the Fall/Winter of 1944-45. In a fierce battle in the Huertgen Forest, Daniel was killed trying to save his fellow wounded soldiers on February 2, 1945. He is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
