Sulo Edward Alanen was born on December 16, 1920 in Crow Wing County, Minnesota. He entered the army early in 1942 and had been stationed in England. Sulo served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on January 19, 1945 in Belgium at the age of 24 and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
