Arthur served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on August 1, 1944 in Brecy, France at the age of 31 and is now buried in Reed Cemetery, New River, Scott County, Tennessee, USA.
