Donald J. Thompson was the son of James K. Thompson and Edith Wilbur Thompson. He was a graduate of Warners high school, he entered service in April, 1942, and trained at Camp Croft, S. C., and Indiantown Gap, Pa. Overseas with the 1st Infantry Division, August, 1942, he went through the African, Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns and was then sent to England. On D-Day he entered France and was wounded, being hospitalized for three months in Wales, England, where he was awarded the purple heart. He rejoined his outfit Oct. 2, 1944, two weeks before he was killed. He was Killed in Action on October 16, 1944 in Germany and is now buried in Warners Village Cemetery, Warners, Onondaga County, New York, USA.
