Gerald M. Henderson was born on May 15, 1919 in Pike County, Arkansas. He was the son of Hugh Fred Henderson and Ora Ethel Pollard Henderson. Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technical Sergeant in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 25 and is now buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas, USA. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross (awarded posthumously) and three Purple Hearts one for wounds received in Northern Africa, one for a wound received in Sicily, and lastly for the fatal wound at Omaha Beach, awarded posthumously.
