Wendell E. Lord was born on August 19, 1894 in Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont. He was the son of Charles Colburn Lord and Etta May Wilds Lord. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 101st Ammunition Train, 26th Infantry Division. He died on November 8, 1918 in France at the age of 24 but his current burial place is unknown. He also has a cenotaph located in Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont, USA.
