John Cheshire Burwell was born on February 29, 1896 in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He was the son of William Lewis Burwell and Caroline E. Cheshire Burwell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Wagoner in the 101st Sanitary Train, 26th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on April 20, 1918 in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, USA.
