William Thomas McNeil was born on November 2, 1888 in Columbia Township, Tuscola County, Michigan. He was the son of John McNeil and Jennie Love McNeil. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Captain in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on December 27, 1918 in the Battle of Argonne, France at the age of 30 and is now buried in Indian Fields Township Cemetery, Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan, USA.
