William P. Kooi was born in February 1895 in Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Peter W. Kooi and Marie P. Hoogstra Kooi. He entered the military service in Oregon and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 101st Field Signal Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He died on July 13, 1918 and is now buried in Aisne-Marne American Cem., Belleau, France.
