Robert H. Flansburg was born on February 1, 1893. He was the son of Claude Copley Flansburg and Clara Flansburg. He was a postgraduate student in the law department at the University of Chicago when the United states entered the war. He entered the officers' school at Fort Snelling and received a lieutenant's commission. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Second Lieutenant in the 103rd Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 15, 1918 at the age of 25 and is now buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, USA. His name is also listed on a plaque in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, University of Chicago.
