William L. Setter was born on August 18, 1898 in Flynn Township, Sanilac County, Michigan. He was the son of Nicholas Setter and Emma Clapsaddle Setter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 102nd Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 27, 1918 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Omard Cemetery, Brown City, Sanilac County, Michigan, USA.
