Earl J. Montague was born in 1898. He entered the military service in Vermont and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 101st Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He died on November 7, 1918 and is now buried in Suresnes American Cemetery, Suresnes, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Binghamville Cemetery, Binghamville, Franklin County, Vermont, USA.
