John J. McCann was born on May 10, 1894 in Manchester, Hartford County, Connecticut. He enlisted in the Army on Niantic, CT on August 23, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Wagoner in the 101st Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He died on December 11, 1918, of pneumonia in Frace at the age of 24 and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
