Walter Clifford Lamkins was born on October 23, 1896 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Frederick W. Lamkins and Charlotte Sarah Godso Lamkins. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 101st Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 24, 1918 in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Center Cemetery, East Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA.
