Robert Elroy Collins was born on February 23, 1896 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of John Collins and Anna E. McElroy Collins. He enlisted in the Army on May 4, 1917 and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company C, 101st Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He died on October 23, 1918 in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA.
