Robert Cassie was born on May 30, 1892 in Vinalhaven, Knox County, Maine. He was the son of Andrew Cassie. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Battery B, 102nd Field Artillery Regiment, 26th Infantry Division. He died of the result of gas and bronchial pneumonia during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive by the American forces on October 13, 1918 in France at the age of 26 and is now bured in John Carver Cemetery, Vinalhaven, Knox County, Maine, USA.
