Gardiner Thompson was born on October 28, 1892 in Massachusetts. He was the son of Milton Strong Thompson and Abigail Adams Thompson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Second Lieutenant in Company B, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 16, 1918 at Haumont Woods in the Meuse Valley, near Verdun, France and is now buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA.
