Velpo M. Stewart was born on August 20, 1899. He was the son of James B. Stewart and Martha Lorena Tomlinson Grimes. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I in Company B, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1918 at the age of 18 and is now buried in Brooksville Cemetery, Brooksville, Hernando County, Florida, USA.
