Joseph M. Rivers was born on July 18, 1897 in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. He was the son of Joseph Dewey Rivers and Emeline (Patch) Rivers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company E, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died from his wounds received in battle in 1918 in Chateau-Thierry, France and is now buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, USA.
