John W. Powers was born on April 21, 1881. He was the son of Thomas Powers and Mary Powers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company M, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1918 in Chateau-Thierry, France at the age of 37 and is now buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Medway, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA.
