Rayburn B. Melendy was born in Quincy, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Lieutenant in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on November 1, 1918 in Argonne, France but his current burial place is unknown. His name is commemorated on the tablet inside a church in Belleau, France and ranked as a Sergeant. His name is also spelled as Raybern.
