He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on November 30, 1918 in Blois, France at the age of 29 and is now buried in Philipsburg Cemetery, Philipsburg, Granite County, Montana, USA.
