Sylvester Kidd was born on February 1, 1895 in Wakefield, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was the adopted son of George Fuller Maxam and Sarah Maria Davenport Maxam. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 28, 1918 in Verdun, France at the age of 23 and is now buried in Colrain West Branch Cemetery, Colrain, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA. His name is commemorated on the Belleau Church tablet in France but his name is inscribed as Silvester.
