James Joseph “Ginger” Hurley was born on February 12, 1897 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the old 8th regiment in April, 1917. Previous to his enlistment he was employed by Ginn & Co. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company E, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 16, 1918 in France at the age of 21 and is now buried in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.
