Harvey R. Gokey was born on December 21, 1897 in Palmer, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Joseph B. Gokey and Rose Stone Gokey. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on October 16, 1918 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Saint Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA.
