Raymond J. France was born in 1895. He was the first Montgomery County, Ohio soldier killed in World War I. He was 21 years old when he went to war in 1917. He was living with his parents and working in his father's plumbing business. In June of 1918, he was assigned to Company M, 104th Infantry, 26th Division and went to France. Raymond was killed in action on the 16th of October, 1918, at St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne. VFW post 657 is named for him.
