James H. Danckert entered the military service in Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 18, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cem., Belleau, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.
